From Albany International Airport to North Egremont Take I90 East and continue on New York State (NYS) Thruway Berkshire Extension toward Boston – also I90. Exit at last exit in NYS – Exit B3. Take Route 22 South 8.5 miles to Route 71 East – left fork (sign says Great Barrington). Drive 4.7 miles to the Walters’ house. (Route 71 is Egremont Plain Road). It comes soon after a sign indicating you are entering North Egremont Village historic district and a reduced speed limit. The house is #249, a large white colonial at the corner. However, parking will be in the meadow off Shun Toll Road, a dirt road on your right 200 feet beyond our driveway. You have gone too far if your reach North Egremont center, where there is a post office, country store, and the Elm Court Inn. Return To Page Top
From New York City to North Egremont Get to the Taconic Parkway. For example, take the Triborough Bridge to the Bronx (bearing left), after the toll bear right to the Bruckner Expressway (I-278). Exit to the Bronx River Parkway which turns into the Sprain Parkway and then finally into the Taconic. The Taconic is heavily patrolled, so watch the speed limit. Follow the Taconic into Columbia County and look for the exit - Route 23 Hillsdale. This is about 110 miles from the Triborough Bridge. Follow Route 23 through Hillsdale, cross into Massachusetts. Pass through South Egremont. Route 23 turns slightly to the right, but bear left on Creamery Road, following sign which says “To 71”. Creamery Road ends at Route 71 (Egremont Plain Road). Turn left. Go through North Egremont center, which has a post office, country store, and the Elm Court Inn. The Walters’ house is about 0.3 miles past town, on the left. The house is #249, a large white colonial at the corner. However, parking will be in the meadow off Shun Toll Road, a dirt road on your left, 200 feet before our driveway. Return To Page Top
